As of Jan. 15, Prof. Robert W. Heath, Jr. became the fourth Director of the WNCG. Sanjay Shakkottai, who became Associate Director a year ago, will continue in his role as the Associate Director.

Dr. Heath has been with UT Austin since 2001 and was recently promoted from Associate Professor to Professor in December 2011. He received his B.S. and M.S. from the University of Virginia and his Ph.D from Stanford University. His research explores the intersection between
wireless communication, signal processing, applied math, and communication theory. Dr. Heath is part of the DARPA ITMANET team developing a Non-Equillibrium Information Theory and also leads the UT team developing a Perceptual Optimization of Large Scale Wireless Video Networks funded by Intel and Cisco.

Prof. Jeff Andrews stepped down after four years of service as Director, and will of course remain highly active in the WNCG.
