Rappaport and Shakkottai Receive NSF Supplemental Funding

The National Science Foundation (NSF) recently awarded Professor Ted Rappaport and Assistant Professor Sanjay Shakkottai supplemental funding to their ongoing NSF grants, allowing them to provide new research opportunities for several undergraduate students.

Professor Rappaport, Director of WNCG, received a $6,000 Research Experience for Undergraduates supplement to his NSF project entitled "Montage: An Integrated End-to-End Design and Development Framework for Wireless Networks". This supplement will be used to support two undergraduates who will conduct a literature search on various positioning location methodologies, and implement position location techniques that can be combined with the site-specific channel modeling components of the Montage project.

Assistant Professor Shakkkottai also received a a $6,000 Research Experience for Undergraduates supplement to his NSF project entitled "Fast Wireless Network Simulation Using Spatio-Temporal Dilations". This supplement will fund one undergraduate student who will provide programming support and explore the design of network algorithms using the hybrid testbed being developed under this project.

NSF's Research Experiences for Undergraduates program aims to provide appropriate and valuable educational experiences for talented undergraduates through research participation and high-quality interaction with faculty and graduate students, as well as access to research facilities and professional development opportunities.
