Prof. Vishwanath receives grant from Air Force Office of Scientific Research to build cognitive mobile networks

Professor Vishwanath has received grant of $250,000 from AFOSR to build cognitive and adaptive mobile networks. Using this grant, Prof. Vishwanath will develop a test-bed comprised of mobile nodes that are able to communicate with each other using adaptive protocols and physical cognition. This test-bed is potentially very useful for multiple ongoing research projects at UT, such as mobile ad hoc network capacity analysis and robust & secure network design among others.

Prof. Vishwanath receives $450,000 from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency

Professor Vishwanath received a three year grant from DTRA to analyze networks under stress (from natural and man-made causes). The scenarios that are to be investigated include: networks that are flooded with (possibly malicious) mis-information, and networks that are physically damaged by an attack (from man-made attacks such as WMDs and natural disasters such as hurricanes/earthquakes). The work will focus on determining tradeoffs between network capacity, robustness and resource utilization for such networks. The ultimate goal is to design networks that self-adjust when placed under stress, surviving attacks and instantaneously adapting themselves to operate as efficiently as possible.
