The EURECA program, an NSF funded undergraduate research experience for undergraduates (REU), commenced its 6th summer program on June 6th this year. A nine-week program led by Professors Bard and Vishwanath, it draws undergraduates from across the nation to participate in graduate-level cutting-edge research in networking, wireless, robotics, control and signal processing. This year's program has a special emphasis of bridging research and entrepreneurship for the program participants. As part of this, UT's entrepreneur-in-residence Mark Mardock is speaking to the students on the importance of technical entrepreneurship, and Austin area IP lawyer Justin Dillon is talking to them about patents and the interaction between law and technology. The overall aim of the EURECA program is to inspire students to do research and to attend graduate school. The aim this year is to convince them that research and entrepreneurship go hand in hand, and to get them thinking about research ideas with commercial potential.
