Yifan Jiang Receives 2023 Apple Scholars in AI/ML PhD Fellowship

Yifan Jiang, a PhD student in the Chandra Family Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, has been named a recipient of a 2023 Apple Scholars in AI/ML PhD fellowship. The Apple Scholars in AI/ML PhD fellowship recognizes the contributions of researchers in computer science and engineering at the graduate and postgraduate level. Apple Scholars in AI/ML are selected based on their innovative research, record as thought leaders and collaborators, and commitment to advancing their respective fields.

Sriram Vishwanath Named National Academy Of Inventor's Senior Member for 2023

Four faculty members at The University of Texas at Austin have been named to the National Academy of Inventors’ 2023 class of Senior Members. The honorees include three faculty members from the Cockrell School of Engineering and one from the College of Natural Sciences. They are Jennifer Maynard, Jason McLellan, Delia Milliron and Sriram Vishwanath.

Shiwei Liu and Visual Informatics Group Receive Best Paper Award at LoG 2022

Texas ECE and Institute for Foundations of Machine Learning (IFMl) postdoc Shiwei Liu along with Prof. Atlas Wang and the Visual Informatics Group received the Best Paper Award at the Learning on Graphs (LoG) 2022 Conference for their paper “You Can Have Better Graph Neural Networks by Not Training Weights at All: Finding Untrained GNNs Tickets.” LoG is a new annual research conference that covers areas broadly related to machine learning on graphs and geometry, with a special focus on review quality.

Texas ECE PhD student Dejia Xu has been selected to receive a Snap PhD Fellowship. The Snap Research Fellowship program is designed to foster a strong collaboration between Snap Research and the brightest, most driven graduate computer science students across the world. Snap Research recognized 12 PhD students with Fellowships for 2022.

Al Bovik Elected to National Academy of Inventors

Al Bovik, professor in the Chandra Family Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, has been elected a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). Election to NAI Fellow status is the highest professional distinction accorded solely to academic inventors.

Al Bovik and LIVE Receive BaM (“Bammy”) Award®

Caramanis was honored "for contributions to robust statistics and optimization in high dimensions."

Millán, Ph.D., study the electrical activity of the man’s brain indicating when he wants to use the robot to take a right step versus a left one.
