WNCG Alumnus Vishal Monga has led two teams of researchers to success at the New Trends in Image Restoration and Enhancement (NTIRE) worldwide competition.
Monga received his Ph.D.EE from Texas ECE in 2005, advised by Prof. Brian L. Evans at WNCG. He now runs the Information Processing & Algorithms Laboratory at Penn State’s College of Engineering and holds the title of Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
WNCG alumnus Prof. Siddhartha Banerjee has been named a recipient of the National Science Foundation Early Career Development Program (CAREER) Award.
Banerjee received his doctorate from Texas ECE in 2013. As a member of WNCG, he was advised by Profs. Sanjay Shakkottai and Sujay Sanghavi. He is currently an Assistant Professor of operations research and information engineering at Cornell University, and he also serves as a technical consultant for popular rideshare service Lyft.
WNCG alumnus Chan-Byoung Chae has received the Young Engineer Special Award from the National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK).
Prof. Chan-Byoung Chae has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Molecular, Biological, and Multi-scale Communications (T-MBMC). The official term of service, which began Jan. 1 2019 and ends Dec. 31 2020, is renewable for up to two additional years.
On November 6 and 7, WNCG hosted the Texas Wireless Summit (TWS). TWS is the group’s annual conference. TWS brings together leading figures in industry, academia, and government to discuss the latest developments in information systems technology. The theme for this year, “What Started Here Has Changed the Wireless World,” was a celebration of the 15 years since the creation of WNCG, founded by Professor Ted Rappaport.
Former WNCG Postdoctoral Researcher, Dr. Yakir Hadad, recently joined the faculty in the School of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Physical Electronics at Tel-Aviv University in Israel. His role as a tenure track Senior Lecturer is the equivalent of a tenure track Assistant Professor in the United States’ academic system.
Former WNCG Postdoctoral Researcher Juan Sebastián Gómez-Díaz recently accepted a position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California Davis. At UC Davis, Prof. Gómez-Díaz will also head the Applied Micro-Nano Electromagnetics Research Laboratory.
Prof. Gómez-Díaz received his master and PhD degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Universidad Polytéchnica de Cartagena. As a Postdoctoral Fellow at WNCG, he was advised by Prof. Andrea Alú.
WNCG alumni, Prof. Chan-Byoung Chae, along with his students and colleagues from Canada, recently received the IEEE INFOCOM 2015 Best Demo Award. They received the award for their project entitled “Molecular MIMO Communication Link.”
Alumna Suju Rajan won Best Paper Award at RecSys 2014 for her paper entitled “Beyond Clicks: Dwell Time for Personalization.”
The ACM Recommender System conference (RecSys) is the premier international forum for the presentation of new research results, systems and techniques in the broad field of recommender systems.
