Dr. Rahul Vaze and Professor Robert W. Heath Jr. received the EURASIP 2011 Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking Best Paper Award for their paper: 'End-to-End Joint Antenna Selection Strategy and Distributed Compress and Forward Strategy for Relay Channels.' In this paper, the authors show how a small amount of feedback could be used to configure a multi-hop relay channel to achieve good reliability and high throughput, achieving the optimum diversity-multiplexing tradeoff. This confirms the vital role of feedback in wireless networks, a theme of much of Prof. Heath's research. Dr. Rahul Vaze finished his Ph.D. at UT Austin in the WNCG, in 2009, under the supervision of Prof. Robert Heath. He is currently a faculty member in the School of Technology and Computer Science TIFR - Mumbai. The European Association for Signal Processing gives an annual best paper award to a paper in the EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking. Prof. Heath and Dr. Vaze will receive the award at the end of August in Barcelona, Spain at the EUSIPCO 2011 conference. This work was funded by the DARPA ITAMNET program, as part of the NeQuIT project, under grant W911NF-07-1-0028.
