Samsung Joins WNCG Industrial Affiliate Program

Dallas-based subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., has recently become an Industrial Affiliate sponsor of the Wireless Networking and Communications Group (WNCG) at The University of Texas. Samsung Telecommunications America researches, develops and markets wireless handsets and telecommunications products throughout North America. In joining WNCG, Samsung Telecommunications America gains direct access to research results and expertise of 16 faculty in electrical and aerospace engineering and computer science, as well as over 140 graduate and undergraduate students working in diverse areas of wireless communications.small;'>'Samsung can benefit greatly from the strong academic research program that WNCG provides, and we look forward to a long-term relationship with The University of Texas,' said Dr. Farooq Khan, Senior Director of the Standards RF Lab. WNCG Director Jeffrey Andrews said 'Samsung Electronics is a world-wide leader in wireless communications, and has recruited many students from WNCG. In addition to joining the WNCG Industrial Affiliate program, Samsung Telecommunications America is also supporting Prof. Ted Rappaport's research in broadband millimeter wave propagation modeling and channel sounding.'We are delighted to have Samsung Telecommunications America join our Industrial Affiliates program, and look forward to close interaction with their Richardson, TX research facility, as well as with researchers in Korea,' said Rappaport, WNCG's Founding Director. WNCG is one of the leading wireless research programs in the world, with over 140 graduate students and over $22 Million in funding since its inception in 2002. WNCG was recently named a NSF I/UCRC Wireless Internet Communications Advanced Technologies (WICAT) Center site, and has sponsorship from DARPA, DOD, and 13 major corporations who sit on the WNCG Industrial Affiliates board.
