Prof. Al Bovik of Texas ECE has been named the 2019 recipient of the IEEE Fourier Award for Signal Processing. The IEEE Fourier Award for Signal Processing was established in 2012 and is awarded to an individual or team based on "impact on the field of signal processing technology, including innovation; leadership; honors or seminal contributions as evidenced by publications or patents or transition to practice; and quality of nomination." Prof. Alex Dimakis of Texas ECE has been named the 2018 recipient of the Information Theory Society James L. Massey award. The award recognizes outstanding achievement in research and teaching by young scholars in the Information Theory community based on the impact of their research in the field of Information Theory as well as their teaching contributions. The award is named in honor of James L. Massey, who was "an internationally acclaimed pioneer in digital communications and a revered teacher and mentor to an entire generation of communications engineers."
