WNCG Alum Joyce Ho Joins Emory Faculty

Dr. Joyce Ho, who graduated from WNCG in December 2015, began her tenure-track faculty position with Emory in January of this year. With the startup she cofounded, Accordion Health, gaining traction in the Austin technology scene and her new faculty position, life and work are really picking up the pace for Dr. Ho. Only a few weeks into the start of her new career, WNCG sat down with this alumna to discuss her time at WNCG and the challenges and triumphs she looks forward to on her new academic path. Q: How did you originally connect with the opportunity at Emory?

New Student Apps Encourage Users to Go Nuts over Healthcare

There is a new app on the market that encourages users to go nuts over healthcare, complete with a squirrely mascot. Created by the founders of Accordion Health and dubbed the “health nuts,” the two new apps, Pistachio and Chestnut, bring medical care back under the control, and into the palms of, users and patients.

Sifting Through Social Noise

Recent years have radically changed the way people socialize; in parts of the developed world that have good broadband and cellular penetration, the average person now spends more time on online social networks than on physical meetings with acquaintances outside their immediate family. “We were socializing before social networks,” Prof. Sujay Sanghavi states. “But now we can automatically capture fine details of social interaction, such as when someone views a photo and how they share and interact with the image.” The problem now is the issue of information overload.
