Prof. Al Bovik of Texas ECE has been named the 2019 recipient of the IEEE Fourier Award for Signal Processing. The IEEE Fourier Award for Signal Processing was established in 2012 and is awarded to an individual or team based on "impact on the field of signal processing technology, including innovation; leadership; honors or seminal contributions as evidenced by publications or patents or transition to practice; and quality of nomination." AUSTIN, Texas — Three researchers in the Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin have been selected by the Department of Defense to lead Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) projects, receiving grants totaling $22.7 million to help advance innovative technologies in energy, computing and nanoelectronics.

Prof. Andrea Alù has been awarded a Department of Defense Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) award on Attojoule Nanooptoelectronics, funded by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. Prof. Alù and his team, formed by researchers from Stanford University, Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania, and international collaborators from Belgium and the Netherlands, were selected to work on the project "Ultralow Power, Ultrafast, Integrated Nano-optoelectronics".
