WNCG Student Presents at 2012 NITRD National Workshop

Kyle Wesson, a WNCG graduate student who is co-advised by Prof. Brian Evans and Prof. Todd Humphreys, was invited to present at the National Workshop on the New Clockwork for Time-Critical Cyber-Physical Systems held in Baltimore, MD on October 25 and 26, 2012. The workshop featured daily presentations and breakout sessions for the researchers in attendance from industry, academia, and government.

Humphreys Receives 2012 Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award

Established in 2008, the Regents awards are offered annually in recognition of faculty members of the nine University of Texas System academic institutions who have demonstrated extraordinary classroom performance and innovation in undergraduate instruction, and are the Board of Regents highest honor. Professor Humphreys is a truly special case, ASE/EM Department Chair, Professor Philip Varghese said. He joined UT a couple of years ago and has excelled in teaching and in every other respect.

WNCG Professors Alu and Vikalo Receive Promotions

WNCG had two successful promotions during the Fall 2012 semester. Professors Andrea Alu and Haris Vikalo were both promoted from Assistant Professors to Associate Professors with tenure. Al came to UTs Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2009, and joined WNCG in 2012. He is also affiliated with the Applied Research Laboratories at the University of Texas at Austin, where he is involved in research projects on electromagnetics and acoustics. Vikalo joined UTs Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2007, and joined WNCG in 2009.

Nano Liquid Devices Inc. Newest WNCG Affiliate

WNCG would like to welcome Nano Liquid Devices Inc. (NLD) as its newest industrial affiliate. NLD (http://www.nano-liquid.com) focuses on the Micro Metal Sphere technology, with the goal of delivering RF MEMS for wireless applications (tunable RF modules for mobile phones). NLD believes that their technology will advance merging cell phones and computing for the next era of cutting-edge mobile technology.

Heath Named IEEE Signal Processing Society Distinguished Lecturer

Robert W. Heath, Jr. was recently named an IEEE Signal Processing Society Distinguished Lecturer from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2014. Only five individuals are conferred with this honor each year.

Andrews Elected to IEEE Information Theory Society Board of Governors

Jeffrey Andrews was elected to the Board of Governors of the IEEE Information Theory Society. He was one of six new members worldwide elected this year, and will serve a three year term from 2013-2015. This distinguished position will lead to future assignments throughout his governorship. Andrews is a long-standing member of IEEE. He was also awarded the 2010 IEEE Communications Society Best Tutorial Paper Award, and most recently the 2011 Communications Society Heinrich Hertz Prize.
