Dr. Andrea Alù received the Inaugural Franco Strazzobosco Award for the year 2013. The award recognizes an Italian engineer under the age of 40 for entrepreneurial courage in applying scientific discoveries to public advantage. The award consists of $5,000 and a Presidential Medal of Representation. The award was presented to Dr. Alù by Italian President Giorgio Napolitano at the Italian Embassy in Washington, D.C.
