Prof. Jeff Andrews and Prof. François Baccelli Receive IEEE Communications Society Awards

Prof. Jeff Andrews and Prof. François Baccelli have been named as recipients of IEEE Communications Society Awards for their work on cellular networks.

They received the Stephen O. Rice Prize in the Field of Communications Theory for their paper on "A Tractable Approach to Coverage and Rate in Cellular Networks,” cou-authored with R.K. Ganti and published in IEEE Transactions On Communications, Vol. 59, No. 11, in November 2011. The award is given to the best paper that appeared in the IEEE Transactions on Communications over the past three years.

Prof. Andrews and Baccelli also received the Leonard G. Abraham Prize in the Field of Communications Systems for the paper “Modeling and Analysis of K-Tier Downlink Heterogeneous Cellular Networks,” co-authored by H.S. Dhillon and R.K. Ganti and published in IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications Vol. 30, No. 3, in April 2012. This award is given to the best paper that appeared in the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications over the past three years.

The co-authors are Prof. Andrews' former postdoctoral associate Radha Ganti and former PhD student Harpreet Dhillon. Dr. Ganti is an assistant professor at IIT Madras, and Dr. Dhillon will be an assistant professor at Virginia Tech starting in fall 2014.
