Wireless E-Tattoo for Pneumonia Aims to Transform Patient Monitoring

Pneumonia has emerged as a life-threatening complication of COVID-19, accounting for nearly half of all patients who have died from the novel coronavirus in the U.S. since the beginning of the pandemic. Even before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, pneumonia was responsible for more than 43,000 deaths in 2019.

The Future of Light-Emitting Tattoos

WNCG professor Nanshu Lu's work on wearable electronic tattoos was featured in a BBCNews piece on the future of light-emitting tattoos. Prof. Lu and her team have shown that their tattoo-like system can measure blood flow in the fingertips and they hope to demonstrate that the same technology could also be used on the neck, head and muscles, with data transferred to a nearby computer via a Bluetooth chip built into the device. WNCG Student Hyoyoung Jeong Selected for Inaugural Engineering Ph.D. Summit

WNCG student Hyoyoung Jeong represented The University of Texas at Austin at the inaugural Engineering Ph.D. Summit in Lausanne, Switzerland. The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne, or EPFL) hosted the summit, which was held November 7.

WNCG Student Startup Top Finalist in TWS Autotech Showcase

Radiosense, an Austin-based startup that provides precise positioning for automated vehicles, recently placed in the top three at Texas Wireless Summit (TWS) 2016’s Autotech Startup Showcase. Radiosense was founded by WNCG student and CEO Andrew Kerns, fellow student Daniel Shepard and alum Ken Pesyna. Produced as a partnership between TWS and the Austin Technology Incubator (ATI) and sponsored by Rohde and Schwarz, the TWS showcase identified promising autotech startups from across the country and created a distinct platform for exposure and industry engagement.
