Sriram Vishwanath Named National Academy Of Inventor's Senior Member for 2023

Four faculty members at The University of Texas at Austin have been named to the National Academy of Inventors’ 2023 class of Senior Members. The honorees include three faculty members from the Cockrell School of Engineering and one from the College of Natural Sciences. They are Jennifer Maynard, Jason McLellan, Delia Milliron and Sriram Vishwanath.

Prof. Robert Heath of Texas ECE has been named a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). Election to NAI Fellow status is the highest professional distinction accorded to academic inventors who have demonstrated a prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development and the welfare of society.

Prof. Andrea Alù and Team Build First Nonreciprocal Acoustic Circulator: A One-Way Sound Device

A team of researchers in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The Unversity of Texas at Austin (UT ECE) led by Prof. Andrea Alù has built the first-ever circulator for sound. The team’s experiments successfully prove that the fundamental symmetry with which acoustic waves travel through air between two points in space (“if you can hear, you can also be heard”) can be broken by a compact and simple device.
