WNCG student Nithin Ramesan received the Best Student Paper Award at the 18th International Symposium on Modeling and Optimization in Mobile, Ad Hoc and Wireless Networks (WiOpt 2020).  This is the second year in a row that the award has gone to a WNCG student. Ramesan’s winning paper, "Wireless Queues in Poisson Interference Fields: the Continuum Between Zero and Infinite Mobility," was co-authored with his advisor, Prof. François Baccelli.

Ph.D. student Jessica Hoffmann received second place in the INFORMS Nicholson Student Paper competition. She received the award for her recent paper "Learning Graphs from Noisy Epidemic Cascades" with her advisor, WNCG professor Constantine Caramanis.Epidemics are a powerful framework for modeling human and computer viruses, as well as influence, rumors, information and disinformation.

Jiaxiao Zheng received the Best Student Paper Award at the 17th International Symposium on Modeling and Optimization in Mobile, Ad Hoc and Wireless Networks (WiOpt 2019). The conference took place this summer in Avignon, France. 

RCR Wireless News, a leading source of wireless, telecom and mobile technology news and actionable intelligence since 1982, named WNCG Prof. Jeff Andrews to their top 10 list of Industrial Internet-of-Things (IoT) 5G Innovators. His inclusion in the list is part of a greater list focused on recognizing the top international leaders fueling what RCR Wireless calls the Fourth Industrial Revolution - a revolution focused on futuristic, next-generation industrial IoT applications and the mobile telecommunications industry.

IEEE GLOBECOM is one of two flagship conferences of the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), together with IEEE ICC. Each year the conference attracts about 3,000 submitted scientific papers and dozens of proposals for industry events. A technical program committee of more than 1,500 experts provides more than 10,000 reviews, and from this a small fraction of the submitted papers are accepted for publication and presentation at the conference.

Texas Wireless Summit (TWS) 2015 explored next generation wireless networks in a day-long event focused on The View to 5G: From Applications to the Air Interface. The 13th annual TWS provided a forum on emerging technology and business models for industry leaders and academics. Hosted by WNCG, TWS offered direct access to cutting-edge research and innovations from industry leaders, investors, academics and startups. Through keynote and panel-driven discussions, leading business and technology executives and top academics shared entrepreneurially-oriented research. WNCG Profs.

  This April, WNCG Prof. Jeffrey Andrews and other experts met with FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler to discuss spectrum innovation. The discussion between Wheeler and Andrews explored how current research can inform FCC and U.S. spectrum policies and research investments for a still-undefined 5G cellular standard.

Recent WNCG Alumnus Prof. Chun-Hung Liu won the Best Paper award at the 2014 IEEE Workshop on Heterogeneous and Small Cell Networks, held in conjunction with IEEE Globecom in Austin, Texas.   His paper was entitled "Adaptive Downlink CoMP in Heterogeneous Cellular Networks with Imperfect Overhead Messaging”, which is on utilizing several base stations to coordinate their transmissions to boost signal power and reduce other-cell interference, while having imperfect and limited connections between them. Prof. Liu was the sole author.

WNCG student Francesco Monticone received an Honorable Mention in the Student Paper Competition at the IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting held in Memphis, TN in July 2014. The IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S) and the U.S. Committee of the International Union of Radio Science (USNC-URSI) cosponsor the symposium. The joint meeting provides an international forum for the exchange of information on state-of-the-art research in antennas, propagation, electromagnetics and radio science.
