Researchers are Developing Analytics to Combat Dementia Using Mobile Sensor Data

WNCG professor Edison Thomaz and fellow researchers from The University of Texas at Austin have received a 4-year R01 grant award from the National Institute of Health (NIH) to study "Digital Biomarkers and Analytics for Cognitive Impairment with Mobile and Wearable Sensing." Jared Benge and Justin Rousseau from the Dell Medical School and Rosemary Lester-Smith of the UT Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences are collaborating on the project.

When around 70 percent of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) faculty nowadays come from the top four schools, the process of securing a faculty position, particularly as a new graduate, can be grueling. WNCG Ph.D. graduate Zak Kassas recently accepted an offer as a tenure-track Assistant Professor at The University of California, Riverside (UCR), making him the first UT Austin graduate to join UCR’s faculty. Prof. Kassas shared with WNCG the lessons he learned through the faculty search process.
