Prof. Haris Vikalo Among Promoted ECE Faculty

WNCG faculty member Haris Vikalo has been promoted to full professor. Vikalo’s was one of five promotions celebrated by the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department (ECE) this week; Profs. Deji Akinwande and Ali Yilmaz were also promoted to Professor, while Prof. Mohit Tiwari made tenure as an Associate Professor, and Prof. Mark McDermott was promoted to Professor of Practice.

Former Postdoc Accepts Faculty Position at Tel-Aviv University

Former WNCG Postdoctoral Researcher, Dr. Yakir Hadad, recently joined the faculty in the School of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Physical Electronics at Tel-Aviv University in Israel. His role as a tenure track Senior Lecturer is the equivalent of a tenure track Assistant Professor in the United States’ academic system.

FCC Announcement Makes New Spectrum Available for Millimeter Wave

The FCC recently announced new spectrum for millimeter wave. The new rules open nearly 11 gigahertz of high-frequency spectrum for mobile and fixed wireless broadband, which include 3.85 GHz of currently licensed spectrum and 7 GHz of unlicensed spectrum. This decision could prove critical for the U.S. to retain its leadership in the field of wireless communications.

WNCG Responds to FCC on Future of mmWave

As mobile wireless communications progress, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is exploring technologies that could lead to the emergence of a new generation of millimeter wave (mmWave) wireless spectrum by the year 2020. Before mmWave carrier frequencies can be applied to cellular networks, spectrum allocations and regulatory frameworks must be determined.
