Ericsson CTO Visits 6G@UT

On October 2, 6G@UT Faculty welcomed Erik Ekudden, Ericsson’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), and Dr. Eric Wang, Research Leader of Ericsson Silicon Valley, to the University of Texas at Austin campus. The group discussed 6G and the future of mobile extended reality (XR) applications in the 2030 timeframe.

Jeff Andrews Receives 2021 Qualcomm Faculty Award

WNCG's Prof. Jeff Andrews has been named as a recipient of a 2021 Qualcomm Faculty Award. The Qualcomm Faculty Award (QFA) "supports key professors and their research through a $75,000 charitable donation to their university. The goal of the QFA funding is to strengthen Qualcomm’s engagement with faculty who are playing a key role in our recruiting of top graduate students."

Qualcomm encourages partnerships among engineers from hardware, software, and systems maintain close relationships with key universities to keep track of their latest discoveries and facilitate new collaborations. The Qualcomm Faculty Award (QFA) is one of the programs that the company uses to support key professors and their research at leading universities identified by the company.

AT&T and Ericsson World Debut 5G Tech at UT

Millimeter wave is an essential and fundamental component for 5G mobile networks and AT&T’s plans. The 5G demo at TWS showcased the possibility and feasibility of millimeter wave radio access technology for the cellular networks of the future. Developed by Ericsson, the new systems incorporated key 5G technologies, including large system bandwidth, phased arrays with ultra-fast beam steering, feedback-based hybrid precoding, multi-user Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO), dynamic beam tracking and beam acquisition.
