A student team supervised by WNCG professor Robert Heath won the first runner-up prize at the Signal Processing Society Five-Minute Video Clip Contest (5-MICC).

Prof. Andrea Alù has been elected as a Fellow of the American Physical Society for “seminal contributions to electromagnetic theory and applications, nano optics, plasmonics, and metamaterials.” Election to Fellowship in the American Physical Society is limited to no more than one half of one percent of the membership and is recognition by peers of the person’s outstanding contributions to physics.

Prof. Andrea Alù was recognized as an Outstanding Referee by the American Physical Society (APS). This award recognizes scientists who have been exceptionally helpful in assessing manuscripts for publication in APS journals. The highly selective Outstanding Referee program annually recognizes the top 150 of the roughly 60,000 currently active referees. 

UT ECE professor Dr. Al Bovik has been named the recipient of the IEEE Signal Processing Society  2013 Society Award for "fundamental contributions to digital image processing theory, technology, leadership and education." The Society Award honors outstanding technical contributions in a field within the scope of the Signal Processing Society and outstanding leadership within that field. In addition to receiving the Society Award, Dr. Bovik was author on two IEEE Signal Procssing Best Papers for 2013. 

UT ECE professors Dr. Robert Heath and Dr. Alan Bovik have each received a Best Paper Award from the IEEE Signal Processing Society for 2013. The Society gives up to six paper awards every year for papers published in each of its transactions and magazine over the five years leading up to the awards.
