The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) announced today that Alan Bovik, professor and Cockrell Family Regents Endowed Chair in Engineering #3 in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, has been elected to the prestigious academy this year. Prof. Bovik was elected "for contributions to the development of tools for image and video quality assessment."

Ted Rappaport, founding director of the Wireless Networking and Communications Group, has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). Membership in the Academy honors those who have “made outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice, or education, including […] significant contributions to the engineering literature.” They are accomplished pioneers of new and developing fields of technology, credited with major advancements in traditional engineering fields or innovations in engineering education.

Virginia-based company, General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) recently joined the WNCG Industrial Affiliate Program as a level one member. GDMS is a business unit of General Dynamics, the global aerospace and defense company and a leading provider of mission critical systems across land, sea, air, space and cyber domains. The company has a global presence in secure communications and networking, command and control systems, imagery sensors and cyber. They are particularly interested in WNCG’s expertise in wireless research, mobile security and antenna design.

Prof. Andrea Alù has been invited to speak at the National Academy of Engineering's 2015 US Frontiers of Engineering Symposium taking place September 9-11, 2015 in Irvine, California. The symposium will cover cutting-edge developments in four areas: Cybersecurity, Forecasting Natural Disasters, Optical and Mechanical Materials, and Engineering the Search for Earth-like Exoplanets.
