Aryan Mokhtari Receives NSF Grant to Research Optimization Algorithms for Large-Scale Learning

WNCG professor Aryan Mokhtari has received a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to study Computationally Efficient Second-Order Optimization Algorithms for Large-Scale Learning. The project “lays out an agenda to develop a class of memory efficient, computationally affordable, and distributed friendly second-order methods for solving modern machine learning problems.”

Professor Al Bovik, holder of a Cockrell Family Regents Chair in the Wireless Networking and Communication Group and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, has received a $450,000 grant over three years from the National Science Foundation (NSF) entitled “Tasking on Natural Image Statistics: 2D and 3D Object and Category Detection in the Wild.”

Student Francesco Monticone receives Honorable Mention in IEEE Student Paper Competition

WNCG student Francesco Monticone received an Honorable Mention in the Student Paper Competition at the IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting held in Memphis, TN in July 2014. The IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S) and the U.S. Committee of the International Union of Radio Science (USNC-URSI) cosponsor the symposium. The joint meeting provides an international forum for the exchange of information on state-of-the-art research in antennas, propagation, electromagnetics and radio science.

Profs. de Veciana, Shakkottai and Collaborators received NSF Grant for Work on 5G Wireless Networks

A group of UT Austin and Stanford faculty members led by Prof. Gustavo de Veciana (UT ECE, WNCG) in collaboration with Profs. Sanjay Shakkottai (UT ECE, WNCG),  Lili Qiu (UT CS, WNCG),  and Ramesh Johari (MS&E, Stanford Univ.) have recently been awarded an NSF grant totaling $978,000. This project supports research in 5G wireless networks.
